SLANG MEANING FOR THE WORD "WHIP" (in the dance "Watch me (Whip/Nae Nae) *In Part I of this series, I shared my belief that the Nae Nae is a parody of stereotypical ideas about how gay males dance. It appears to me that the Nae Nae that is performed in the videos that feature Silento's "Watch Me" is much less of a parody of Sheneneh or anyone else* than the We Are Toonz' version of that dance. Silento's "Nae Nae" dance owes its name to the We Are Toonz' 2013 created dance which is loosely based on the Martin television character "Sheneneh". The song has also charted in Australia, France, Germany and New Zealand." The single peaked at number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100. In April 2015, he was signed to Capitol Records that released the track as a single with an accompanying music video. The song involves various hip hop dances from various songs like "Crank That (Soulja Boy)", "Stanky Leg", ect. In five months, the song achieved over 50 million views. He initially uploaded it online on his YouTube channel on January 26, 2015.
